Merger support

Background

Telecoms company Cable & Wireless acquired rival player Energis, in a strategic move designed to build a credible rival for leadership in the UK telecoms market.

Challenge

There was a long period between announcement of the intention to merge and statutory approval.  During this time, the companies needed to prepare for integration, despite being uncertain whether the merger was going to happen and what the timing might be.

What I Did

I created two guides for managers.  One guide provided simple, practical advice on maintaining business performance during a time of uncertainty.  The other guide focused on the selection and assessment processes that would be used when bringing the two organisations together. The guides were cascaded to business leaders to support the integration process and received great feedback.

Once the initial acquisition period had passed, I did some further work with Cable & Wireless to create communications materials about harmonising employees’ pay and benefits.
