Background
At consultants Ernst & Young, helping people to develop their personal performance is at the heart of business success. Yet few people in any organisation actually enjoy the ‘annual appraisal’ – whichever side of the process they’re on. The firm decided to create an intranet site that would breathe life into performance management and embed it as a core activity.
Challenge
To devise a performance management site that people would actually want to visit and which they would make use of in practice.
What I Did
I created a site that had a clear and simple structure, so that people could quickly find the aspect that met their needs on that particular visit. I wrote each page in plain English, using examples and questions that would engage and involve the viewer. And I devised a ‘flier’ from the Head of HR that made bold use of humour to attract people to the site.
In a similar vein…
For international bank Standard Chartered, I wrote the website pages designed to attract graduate recruits to the company. I also wrote the intranet pages that explained the graduate development programme to them once they’d joined.
