Background

Leading international bank Standard Chartered was re-engineering its global HR function, creating new ways to channel its professional expertise and add value to the business.  A key component in HR’s transformation was the establishment of a shared service centre in India.

Challenge

During a journey that was to last 2.5 years, a global audience of 500 HR professionals needed ongoing information about the project, so that they understood its implications for the business and their own roles.  People had to feel involved and enthusiastic, even though the phased approach to roll-out brought little change in some locations until the project’s later stages.

What I Did

I wrote a series of 20 updates on the project, combining factual information on goals and progress with anecdotal contributions from members of the global and local implementation teams.  As part of the overall mix of communications, the updates were well-received by HR employees – and their simple, readable style meant that they were also used to brief business leaders.
